Engaging Contest! ...IK Holiday issue....

This morning my sweetie surprised me with a proposal!!

We weren't really doing gifts this year but last night he started saying, "I've got a present for you." Oh great. The beanie I'd been knitting for him was cast aside; I just didn't think it was good enough. There was no way it was going to be done. I'm just too tired, no focus. Then it was Christmas morning, "I've got a present for you." No... he's just putting me on. Making breakfast, "I've got a present for you." "Nooo," I whined. (Yes, I whine sometimes but I was getting desperate. I didn't have a gift to give!) That's when he proposed! I was teary and happy and excited - overcome. And I said yes :)

No date yet, no need to get ahead of ourselves. However we have talked about the ceremony - very small. Thank goodness! I'm uncomfortable as the center of attention and that's pretty much what a wedding is all about.

So here's the contest...

For a copy of the 2007 Interweave Knits Holiday issue and 2 skeins of Patons SWS in Natural Geranium, leave me a message with how your sweetie proposed. Or you can leave me a note that you've linked this contest on your blog for another entry.

I'll pick the lucky winner out of a hat on Dec. 31st!

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

I am sooo excited for you. Being with the one you love is really what it's about.

My sweetie proposed on a cliff overlooking the beach in Escondito. At sunset, he gave me my Christmas present...a jacket. I thought it was strange that I we drove to the beach to exchange gifts...but hey. He took photos of me in the jacket...then told me to reach into the pocket. There was a velvet bag with a jewelry box. I kept telling myself it would be earrings. I didn't want to get my hopes up. But, it was a box with a ring...and he was down on one knee. We just celebrated the 9th anniversary of our engagement...yes, we're sappy and celebrate that too.

I wish you a lifetime of happiness together!

Oh yeah...and I got it wrong earlier...not Escondito, Encanitas. If you choos a beach there it may be the same one. =0)

Awww! Congratulations!!

Mu husband forgot to propose.
It was the day before my 25th b-day, and I had been out for the day at a work thing. I came home to roses on the table, next to a tiny wrapped box. He told me he wanted me to have my present early, and made me open the box. Inside was a beautiful engagement ring.
I cried, he pulled me onto his lap and slipped the ring on my finger. After a few minutes of kissing and snuggling he says to me "You know...this present requires an answer..."
I said "It does. But first, there ought to be a question asked, don't you think?"
He looked at me for a moment, laughed and said
"Oh yeah! Hey, will you marry me?"
Obviously I said yes. Not the most romantic of proposals, but certainly a "memorable" one!

Congrats!!!
My hubby didn't do anything grand, but he is one of those subtle kind of guys. After dinner one night in late november (I think), while we were sitting on the couch, he asked me to marry him and gave me a box. It was a little large for a ring box, but being all teary and silly I opened it anyways. It was a watch! The silly man, he didn't want to pick out a ring for me and have it not be something I liked. I still wear the watch almost every day. :P
I will link to your contest on http://roavings.blogspot.com.
p.s;
I would looove to win the magazine! I was unable to get a copy from my local bookstore before they were sold out!

My husband planned an elaborate proposal at his family's ranch: sunset, champagne, the works.
But were were going to go there after Thanksgiving, and he couldn't stand to spend the holiday fielding "when are you getting married?" questions. So he decided, spur of the moment, to ask me ahead of time at home. We'd come home one evening, I was unpacking groceries, and he kept asking me to sit down on the couch with him. I couldn't see what the rush was (there were no candles or flowers to cue me in), so I kept unpacking groceries! I finally came in and sat with him on the couch, and he presented me with the ring, but he was so nervous that he forgot to ask me to marry him... kind of unromantic, but the smile on his face made it a moment to remember!

Congratulations!!!

Our proposal wasn't a surprise, but it was us. We had been living together for a while and considered ourselves basically married, we had just never made it legal. Finally we decided it was time and went to pick out a ring. Two weeks later it was ready to be picked up, on Valentine's Day no less. While he picked it up from the mall, I picked up some carry out from our fave Chinese place and we met back at home. We had a lovely dinner by candlelight and after dinner (and some stalling) he proposed.

This is so embarrassing. I had been going out with Tom for a couple of years and his younger sister decided to get married. His mother made a really big fuss about Sue was doing this and that. So Tom, the huge romantic, said to me, why don't we get married too? No ring, no flowers.

But we've been married now for 35 years so I guess it worked.

My good friend Matt called me from Phoenix (I was living in Portland, OR) and said "[first wife] just came out. You have to marry me now." I was just out of a breakup and never really gave him an answer - but he kept calling and talking about "when we're married..." and eventually I did too. His divorce finally came through, and 24 hrs after we heard, we were married in a Chinese restaurant. We've been ridiculously happy ever since. :) And still friends with the lesbian ex- and her new wife. :)

Congratulations on your engagement.

We were 24 and had been dating for about 2 years. My now-husband had worked at a Boy Scout camp every summer for the past 12 years. And this summer was no different. The day he came back, we went out to eat. Normally when we go out to eat, we go walk around the mall to walk off the food. For about 6 months or so every time we walked by a jewelry store I would tease him and say we should go look at rings. Of course as we walked by the jewelry stores this time I said we should go look at rings. Well, next thing I know he steered me into the store and I am trying on rings. He tells me to pick out my favorite. I do and he buys it.

This next part needs a bit of explaining. I always said I wanted a KitchenAid stand mixer when we get engaged as I will use that more that any expensive diamond ring. Well I was still quite shell shocked by the ring buying and he was able to steer me into the Kitchen gadget store. Where he bought my mixer in cobalt blue. I knew something was going on. I was worried we were going to get home and all our family and a marching band was going to be waiting for us because he was so out in the open with everything.

But there wasn't any surprises. Just me and him when we got home. And he proposed. We have been married a year Nov. 18th.

First, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! That is so romantic to be propsed to as your gift on Christmas morning.

Mu husband and I had known each other since high school, and we already had one child together when he proposed. We went camping for the first time with our one year old at the beginning of the summer and he lit fireworks (small ones) for the baby. At the end of his "grand finale" he had sparklers in a circle, he lit them and knelt inside with the ring. I can't say that it was the brightest thing he had ever done (he nearly lit himself on fire), but it was incredibly romantic.

I hope that your moment stays with you forever, and that it lifts your spirits.

Wow, congratulations! What a sweet. low-key but romantic way to propose. Smart guy ^_- All the best!!!!

My hubby proposed to me about 2 months before we ended up getting married (he had just gotten a promotion which required a move half-way across the country, so he decided he wanted to start this new phase of his life with me as his wife - yay!)

We had gone down to visit his parents for the weekend, and we were driving back up late on Sunday night. It was a 3-ish hour drive so I was sorta cat-napping through the drive, and I opened my eyes to see us pulling into the parking lot of a mall. Mall? At night? I was confused! I got even more confused when I realized it was the mall that we had our first official date at many, many years ago. (Not to mention it was pretty out-of-the-way on the road between his rents and our place).

He stopped the car, got out of the car, and waved for me to get out too. When I did, he knelt down on one knee in the middle of the empty, really dark mall parking lot, proposed, and pulled a ring out of his pocket.

Needless to say, I was bawling for the next hour or so (he initially got scared that it was sad-type crying, but after I assured him it was just overjoyed tears, he just accepted it as a weird "girl thing").

How romantic!!
My husband proposed to me on the anniversary of our 1st date. He took me to a fancy restaurant in Orange, CA called The Hobbit (www.hobbitrestaurant.com). The owners knew what was going on. While we were waiting for our appetizers to come, he said "I'd planned to wait till the end of the evening, but I can't. Marlyn will you marry me?"
And slipped the ring on my finger. I of course, said yes, then burst into tears. Ran out to the ladies' to fix my face and Debra was standing there wanting to know what I'd said. And when I got back to the table, I had to ask T. to tell me what had just happened, to make sure I hadn't imagined it all.
Next March will be our 4th anniversary.
Congrats, tea swap pal!!!

Congrats! Your fiance sounds like a keeper.

My hubby who doesn't have a romantic bone in his body actually consulted with my best friend. November 22, 1996 was the premiere of Star Trek: TNG movie with the Borg. We went to it and I got annoyed at all the pages (before cells) he was getting. At 9:30, we went to eat at Longhorn's Steakhouse. It was a Friday night and very crowded. After dinner, he kept asking me if I wanted dessert. I was getting really steamed b/c the pager kept going off more. I told him no and stormed to the bathroom.

When I came back, he said he ordered dessert anyway. He then said, "I figured out a way we can spend time together." I was kind of snarky and said, "As long as that pager gets left out." The waitress brought this huge chocolate chip cookie with "Marry me, Christy" written all over it. He also placed my engagement ring beside it. The whole restuarant was completely silent and when I said yes, everyone applauded including the cooks and bartenders who left their post to see Dave propose.

Oh yes, all the pages were family and friends asking him if he had popped the question yet.
